Sofia Gontcharenko – Contemporary Visual Artist in Toronto
My name is Sofia Gontcharenko and
I am a young visual artist from Toronto, Canada.
My work is largely inspired by colour and its place in creating emphasis and contrast between the subjects in my work.
I’ve been painting for many years now and have only recently chosen to come forth and show my work to the world, hoping to evoke everlasting joy in viewers as they observe not the painting in its entirety, but the small colouring details that make it for what it is.

Still A Pumpkin

A classic still life painting of pumpkins and a vase. Although that description alone is an injustice to the work’s beauty. The colours are layered and interact in complex ways, with bright yellow acting as both highlight and shadow.
The vase next to the pumpkins is simple but serves as a culmination of the colours used throughout the painting. The same applies to the background — while it is composed of the same colours as the objects, it does not take away from their presence because of the strict vertical strokes that contrast with the varied strokes of the pumpkins and fruit.
